We want to sincerely apologize for our earlier Instagram post where we stated we were hosting an event for “Indigenous Peoples Month”. The correct name is Native American Heritage Month, and we recognize that our mistake may have caused harm and misrepresented the significance of this observance.
Out of respect for Native and Indigenous communities, we have removed the post and postponed the event. Our team is taking this time to ensure the program is developed in consultation with appropriate voices and reflects the respect, accuracy, and care this celebration deserves.
We appreciate the feedback and patience from our community as we learn and do better. Our commitment to honoring the diverse identities that make up the UC Merced community with integrity remains central to our work.
